Rana worked on SESAME (Spin Echo Scattering Angle Measurement) that measures correlations in the real space of nanostructured surfaces and bulks. She developed a dynamical theory calculation that explains the spin-echo polarization measurements of neutron scattering from samples with periodic structures such as diffraction gratings. This theory will be expanded to study more complex systems such as block copolymers structured by grapho-epitaxy and confined in periodic geometries. She also studied the directed self assembly of block copolymers (BCP) in fabricating nanocapacitors. SERGIS (Spin Echo Grazing Incidence Scattering) measurements, which can measure neutron polarization over a range of the spin-echo length from few nanometers to a few microns, can be performed on such samples to study the short as well as long range order of the BCPs which usually lose order at large length scales.
