Jak Doskow Retirement Celebration

Tuesday, June 28, 2022

Jak Doskow & Jean Person

Today, we celebrated the retirement of Jak Doskow and his 42 years of service to IUCF and CEEM. Jak started at MES Hall as a student back in the 1970s and remained to become an instrumental part of every major project in this building. From his research support work on the Cooler Ring in the 1980s, to his design + development work on ALPHA in the 2000s, to his accelerator upgrades + experimental installations on LENS, and his most recent work Mike Snow’s vacuum experiments – you could say he really is a “Jak” of all trades! His spirited humor kept all entertained throughout the years, and his expertise is unmatched – he will be sorely missed. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Our celebration began with a presentation from Jak, full of informative discussion of his years of work as well as humorous retellings of lab antics. Afterwards, presentations were given by Hans-Otto Meyer, David Baxter, and Tom Rinckel, with a final well-wishing from Scott Wissink.

To honor his time here, Jak received a commemorative plaque affixed with a blade from a defective turbo. The celebration finished up with current and retired IUCF/CEEM members reuniting, sharing old memories and new updates (and a few cupcakes!).
