Dissertation Title: Parity and Time-Reversal Violation in the Compound Nucleus

Abstract: The matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe is an important issue for Big Bang cosmology that needs to be addressed. A search for more C and CP violation than what the current standard model predicts can be relevant for the cosmological issue. If one assumes the CPT theorem, which shows that the interactions of point particles in relativistic quantum theory conserve CPT, then one can equate CP violation and T violation.

The NOPTREX (Neutron Optics Parity and Time Reversal EXperiment) collaboration is working toward experiments to aid in this search. I will discuss the design and development of an effort to remeasure parity violation in neutron-nucleus p-wave resonances to new levels of precision. I will also discuss an analysis of the implications of previous p-wave spectroscopy measurements in 117Sn.
