IU alumna Dr. Allena Opper appointed program director for nuclear physics at NSF

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- IU physics PhD Allena Opper recently accepted a position as Program Director for Nuclear Physics at the National Science Foundation. Allena earned her PhD at IU in 1991 for work in experimental nuclear physics at the (former) IU Cyclotron Facility under the direction of Dr. Scott Wissink. She later became a professor of physics at Ohio University and moved to George Washington University, where she had been serving as the chair of the GWU physics department before accepting the NSF position.
