CEEM faculty member Dr. Chen-Yu Liu has been awarded a NIST Precision Measurement Grant. Since 1970, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded Precision Measurement Grants to faculty members of U.S. universities or colleges for significant research in the field of fundamental measurements or the determination of fundamental constants. This prestigious three-year grant will support Dr. Liu's work on precision measurement of the neutron lifetime for applications in tests of the Big Bang theory and in the determination of fundamental parameters of beta decay.
With this award, IU becomes one of the few institutions to have two faculty members with Precision Measurement grant awards active at the same time (Dr. Michael Snow received an award in Fall 2014) and reflects the heightened profile of the Center's research activities in precision measurements.
